Museum directors in Italy have been appointed. Renata Cristina Mazzantini will go to the Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, while Simone Verde will go to the Uffizi, Eike Dieter Schmidt will go to the Capodimonte Museum, and Angelo Crespi will go to the Pinacoteca di Brera. The assignment of Capodimonte to Schmidt is intriguing, with the obvious hope that he can replicate the good job done in Florence in the largest museum in the South. Schmidt, as is well known, was nominated by the previous minister Franceschini, along with other non-Italian directors. Schmidt is the one who has achieved the most in terms of the growth and modernization of the museum entrusted to him. And he is the one who has been so integrated into our country that he is now an Italian citizen.
