More than one-third (34%) of Italians who received the thirteenth month pay this year elected to spend it on Christmas expenses such as gifts, food and wine for holiday dinners, and travel. This is according to a Coldiretti/Ixè study released on the occasion of the shopping weekend that precedes the start of payments to workers in the thirteenth month's pay, which affects around 35 million Italians and is predicted to cost 50 billion euros. Gifts for beneath the tree, visits to Italy, and holiday tables furnished with traditional products are to the top of the list of Christmas 2023 expenses paid by the arrival of the thirteenth in Italian paychecks, according to Coldiretti. Along with those who use the "treasure" to brighten up the Christmas holidays, 23% have resolved to save it in the face of future uncertainties, while the remaining 9% have different ideas, according to Coldiretti. However, 33% will use it to pay bills, mortgages, installments, and taxes, such as the expiring IMU (Municipal Property Tax), which represents a significant portion of the tax burden at the end of the year.
