An indoor marijuana farm with over 1,100 marijuana plants in the old heart of Niscemi, Sicily, in the province of Caltanissetta. It was discovered by the policemen of the police station and the Flying Squad who immediately handcuffed the 76-year-old. The overwhelming odor of marijuana in a city area piqued the interest of the crew of a police car. The intervention of police officers from the Narcotics division of the Caltanissetta Flying Squad enabled the building to be identified, initiating the control. The elderly man was caught red-handed while taking care of marijuana plants with a cultivation facility that, investigators explain, "denotes a marked professionalism." Once inside the structure, the cops discovered a primitive elevator that led to the basement, where the indoor plantation was located. The cultivation system included a high-quality irrigation, lighting, aeration, and ventilation system. Artificial lighting was provided by very powerful headlights with great electricity absorption, which was necessary for plant growth. Enel technicians discovered the tampering with the distribution system and estimate a monthly drain from the grid of around 10,000 euros. For these reasons, the old man was also charged with electrical theft. The artisanal ventilation system consisted of two enormous pipes with powerful motors that blasted air from the basement to the terrace, allowing investigators to locate the residence.
