Dangerous driving: Many teenage drivers travel with distraction, weariness, substance abuse, and excessive speed. One in every five under-25s who drive a two- or four-wheeled vehicle - automobile, motorcycle, moped, microcar, bicycle, or scooter - admits to having their head in the clouds when they take up the steering wheel or handlebars. And a comparable proportion (21%) admit to being engaged in accidents as a result of their misbehavior, to which an even bigger proportion (4 in 10) admit to having gotten dangerously close. A shocking confession made by the 2,075 young people - aged 16 to 24 - interviewed in a study conducted by the Skuola.net portal in collaboration with Autostrade per l'Italia as part of the "Don't close your eyes" school safety project, an initiative resulting from a direct awareness campaign aimed at young people.
