"We have been able to face difficult times, even in recent times in our republican history. We have overcome them thanks first and foremost to the sense of unity and the qualities present in our people. I have confidence in Italy. That it has the resources to face the new time. In the year that is about to begin, our country will assume the presidency of the G7. It will be a great opportunity to foster more advanced solutions on crucial global issues, such as the governance of migration, food security and the regulation of artificial intelligence”. These are the words of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, who yesterday attended a ceremony at the Quirinale for the exchange of end-of-year greetings with representatives of institutions, political forces and civil society. "Fears," Mattarella stresses, "can dampen the sense of solidarity and thus the desire to participate; they can weaken the confidence necessary to make oneself the architect of the future. We cannot overlook the current worrying decline in voting participation, which is essential for the legitimacy of institutions. Trust-participation-democracy are inseparable links in a single chain". “What we are living through is a time, in one way, fascinating, of great change but also difficult, troubled, and in more ways dramatic," the Head of State stressed, pointing out how "social divides are widening" and how "all this confronts us with what appears to be a hairpin turn in history".
