The capital court sentenced Roberto Fiore, the leader of Forza Nuova (an extra-parliamentary far-right party), his former right-hand man and spokesman for "Italia Libera," Giuliano Castellino, and former right-wing extremist Luigi Aronica for the attack on the CGIL union headquarters in Rome on October 9, 2021. Fiore was sentenced to 8 years and 6 months in prison, Castellino to 8 years and 7 months, and Aronica to 8 years and 6 months. The judges additionally imposed the following sentences: Forza Nuova militant Luigi Aronica was condemned to 8 and a half years in prison, while the other defendants, Luca Castellini, Salvatore Lubrano, Lorenzo Franceschi, and Pamela Testa, were sentenced to 8 and 2 months. In the midst of the pandemic, two years ago, a protest against the Green Pass led to an assault on the CGIL headquarters in Rome, the principal trade union of Italy. Smashed doors, smashed windows, and rooms turned upside down: these devastating scenes are now entrenched in the common consciousness. The reading of the sentence in court yesterday was met with scuffles, screams, and chanting to the rhythm of right-wing slogans.
