Tourism in Italy for the Christmas holidays is increasing, with 16.2 million visitors (+0.5% compared to 2022) staying in accommodation facilities between December 23 and January 6. Foreign tourists (+2.7%) and cities of art (+3.9%) are the clear winners. This is the conclusion of a survey of 1,279 hospitality entrepreneurs conducted by the Centro Studi Turistici of Florence for Assoturismo Confesercenti. The market will be made up of 59% nationals and 41% foreign tourists. The latter are predicted to expand by +2.7% and record over 6.5 million admissions. The influx of Italians, on the other hand, would be lower by -1%, reaching more than 9.6 million. The absolute "attractors" of the Christmas holidays will be cities, towns, and art centers: estimations show a +3.9% increase for a total of 6.4 million presences (almost 40% of the total), with international demand increasing by +5.2%. The foreign part of the total here is 49.2%: about one in every two foreigners who pick Italy for the Christmas vacations travels to the art centers of Italy. Mountains (+0.1%) and lake resorts (-0.5%) are also predicted to perform well, with presence remaining at last year's levels. It is anticipated that rural and hilly regions, as well as marine and leisure areas, will experience declines of -1.9%, -5.7%, and -6.4%, respectively.
