Carlo Ratti has been named director of the Architecture Sector by the board of La Biennale di Venezia, with the special mission of curating the 19th International Architecture Exhibition, which will take place in 2025. The nomination was made on President Roberto Cicutto's recommendation and in agreement with Pietrangelo Buttafuoco, President of La Biennale di Venezia, for the four-year term March 2024-2027. Carlo Ratti, a trained architect and engineer, teaches at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Politecnico di Milano. He is the director of the Senseable City Lab and a founding partner of the architecture and innovation company CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati (Turin, New York City, and London). He holds a Master of Philosophy and a PhD in Architecture from the University of Cambridge in England, having graduated from the Polytechnic University of Turin and the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris. He completed his dissertation thesis as a Fullbright Scholar at MIT. He is one of the ten most worldwide recognized researchers in urban planning, having co-authored over 750 scientific articles, including the recently published "Atlas of the Senseable City" (co-authored with Antoine Picon, published by Yale University Press).
