In Italy, the wooden construction market has grown steadily over the last decade, moving away from the niche of single-family dwellings in the province to penetrate metropolitan centers and extend higher, with structures of several floors entirely or largely built of wood. In 2022, the sector - which includes over 300 companies in Italy, with half of them situated in Lombardy, Veneto, and Trentino-Alto Adige - achieved 2.3 billion euros in turnover, representing a 15.8% growth over 2021. In detail, 3,602 new housing units were built last year, bringing residential wood production to a value of 866 million euros (+12.7% compared to 2021), a fifth of Germany's (4.4 billion euros), but still a value that confirms Italy's position in the European Union, behind Germany and Sweden, out of a European total of €12 billion.
