"Io Capitano" by Matteo Garrone has been named to the shortlist of 15 films contending for the Best International Film Oscar in 2024. The next phase will be the announcement of the five titles competing for the statuette on January 23. The Academy Awards will be place on March 10 in Los Angeles. The race to the bottom is expected to be ferocious. The shortlist of fifteen includes " Society of the Snow" by J. A. Bayona, based on an air disaster in the Andes involving a rugby team; the British film "The Zone of Interest" by Jonathan Glazer, based on a novel by Martin Amis and winner of the Special Grand Prix of the Jury at Cannes: "Perfect Days" by Wim Wenders, for a German-Japanese co-production that won the Best Actor Award at Cannes with Koji Yakucho.
