Felice Carlo Besostri, an Italian lawyer and politician, former senator for the Democrats of the Left from 1996 to 2001, died in Milan on January 6. Besostri, who passed away at the age of 79, is known for filing several appeals against a number of electoral laws, particularly the repeal of the Porcellum and Italicum. For this activity he earned the nickname "voter advocate". Besostri also served as mayor of Borgo San Giovanni for the Italian Socialist Party (PSI). After Tangentopoli, Besostri joined the Labor Federation and in the policies he was elected in the proportional lists in the Ulivo coalition. Besostri is also remembered for being majority speaker of the 1999 law that implemented Article 6 of the Italian Constitution concerning the protection of linguistic minorities. In the March 4, 2018 general elections he was a candidate on the Liberi e Uguali lists, but was not elected. Great condolences came in the political world, together with numerous messages of remembrance for his important activity.
