A law against food waste will be considered in order to encourage the usage of the so-called "doggy bag" to take home leftovers from a restaurant lunch or dinner. On Wednesday, January 10, Giandiego Gatta, deputy of Forza Italia and national head of Fi's Fisheries and Aquaculture Department, will deliver the measure titled "Mandatory doggy bag" to the president of Forza Italia's deputies, Paolo Barelli. "The goal of the measure - according to Gatta - is to prevent food waste, which is one of the UN 2030 Agenda's objectives. In Italy, each of us wastes 65 kg of food per person per year due to poor eating habits at home and in restaurants." "The 'Doggy Bag' practice has been around for a while in the United States, and it is already mandatory in France and Spain. Introducing it in Italy would not only be a commonsense measure to prevent food waste, but it would also serve a social and solidarity purpose, which is the goal of my initiative," concludes deputy Gatta.
