Pastor Ovidio Marras, known for his victory in the "battle against cement" in Sardinia, has died at the age of 93. Marras spent much of his life defending his land, located between Tuerredda and Capo Malfatano. Threatening his property was the planned construction of a luxury resort by the Sitas company, which never succeeded despite significant offers to buy the land. Meeting the admiration of so many, Marras had always refused, claiming that the land was part of his family history and not available for sale. Ovidio Marras' struggle against the project and the legal victories he won have become a kind of symbol over the years in the defense of the Sardinian coastline. The area of Sardinia where Marras's estates are located is considered one of the most enchanting on the island, which is why Sitas had entertained the idea of having a high-end tourist facility built there, right next to the sea. It had not reckoned, however, with Ovidio Marras, to whom the conspicuous financial offers to "take off the hook" had never appealed. "Look I'm not selling, this is my father's and my father's father's land and I'm keeping it and you around here have no right to build," the pastor had let it be known. A long court case ensued, a battle won by the pastor. As long as his health allowed, Ovidio Marras continued to live on his family's land and house, so strenuously defended for years. It is the most classic of stories of David beating Goliath, an example of how not everything in the world has a price.
