There will be a new Italian team on the international cycling circuit. It is Team Polti Kometa, the road team led by Ivan Basso, winner of two Giri d'Italia, officially presented in Milan on Wednesday, January 10. The team was created at the behest of Francesca Polti, who heads the Como-based family business that invented the Vaporella, the boiler iron for home use. Starting in 2024 and after more than 20 years of absence, the group returns as a sponsor of cycling because "we want to get to the heads of people and this is a popular and really democratic sport, it touches all social classes, it is liked and there is never a cheer against it. Of course, with our company we aim to get business expansion in countries where we have less of a presence, from Benelux to the United Kingdom and then Germany”. While in Italy, France, and Spain Polti is already a leader with sales that ended 2023 at 75 million euros (up 7 percent from the previous season). "Among the various sports where we were present in the past, including basketball and Formula One with Michael Schumacher, the only one that guaranteed us a return in turnover and increased business was cycling," says Polti, which has entered into an agreement with the Kometa agribusiness group, which is also present in the branding of the new team.
