From stickers to gasoline for the scooter via cell phone recharges: money spent on children is often not counted, but what happens when kids directly manage their own money? In Italy, giving "pocket money" to one's children is still fashionable: a weekly, monthly or "on-demand" tip that teaches youngsters to know the value of what is purchased and to make choices about how to spend money. According to a survey commissioned by Facile.it from research institutes mUp Research and Norstat - conducted on a representative sample of the national population - it was found that 65.2 percent of young people who take pocket money receive it weekly, while 20.8 percent receive it once a month and 14.1 percent on demand. One starts receiving it, on average, at the age of 12; looking, however, at the amount obtained from parents, on average, Italian children between the ages of 10 and 18 receive almost 54 euros per month. The amount of pocket money, however, also varies by age; the "oldest" (15-18 years old) get - on average - almost 70 euros per month, a value that drops to less than 40 euros among those between 10 and 14 years old. Doing the calculations, the estimated value of the pocket money of 10-18 year olds is more than 150 million euros per month, of which 15 percent already travels by methods other than cash.
