The European Commission yesterday approved the inclusion of "Terre Abruzzesi/Terre d'Abruzzo" wines, in the register of protected geographical indications, PGIs. "Terre Abruzzesi/Terre d'Abruzzo" includes the categories wine, sparkling wine and grape wine. The characteristics of these wines are mainly determined by the special soil and climatic conditions of the production area, which is characterized by vast sunny hills combined with the Adriatic Sea to the east and the Gran Sasso and Maiella massifs to the northwest and southwest. Respectively to the west, which favors the formation of significant air currents. The temperate climate, well-drained soils with good water availability and marked temperature ranges between night and day ensure optimal ripening of the grapes. These conditions are ideal for the health of the grapes and the accumulation of aromatic substances in the berries, resulting in wines with an intense and characteristic aroma.
