One of the minor occurrences that serves as an indicator of significant transformations is a decision number 223 issued by the Constitutional Court on Christmas Eve. The significance of this decision stems not from the subject matter - a regional appeal against a government statute - but from the fact that it was issued by the judges rather than the "gentlemen judges" for the first time in the Court's existence. By removing the word "gentlemen" from the headline, it is clear that even among the most important body of constitutional guarantees, there are now many ladies. The first was attorney Fernanda Contri, who was appointed by President Oscar Luigi Scalfaro in 1996. They were succeeded by Maria Rita Saulle, Marta Cartabia, Daria De Pretis, Emanuela Navarretta, Antonella Sciarrone Alibrandi, Silvana Sciarra, and Maria Rosaria San Giorgio. Since 1956, a total of 60 constitutional judges have rotated. There are eight women who have held or continue to occupy this role. Too many people fail to take it into consideration, even in language. The Court appears to have adopted the Accademia della Crusca's advice for more careful language use, including in court documents. The next stage will be to replace the word "man" with "person" in printed texts.
