For the third time in a row, venture capital investments in Italy exceeded one billion euros in 2023, totaling 1,048 million euros. However, they fell by 49.6% from €2,080 million in 2022, with 263 deals compared to 326 the previous year. The fall in investment is consistent with patterns observed in European and global venture capital markets, which are experiencing widespread uncertainty and volatility. In Italy, the trend in 2023 indicates that Venture Capital has reached a critical mass of funding, which is still significant, even though the recent growth trend has been interrupted and, most importantly, the gap with other major European and global economies has not been closed. This is the conclusion of the EY Venture Capital Barometer, an annual study conducted by EY to examine the trend of venture capital investments in Italian startups and scaleups.
