The 16-year-old girl who died of frostbite in the woods of San Candido, South Tyrol, has had her mobile phone discharged. Due to the extreme cold, it was impossible to geolocate her during the search because her mobile phone was completely dead. At 7 in the morning, the German tourist departed, leaving a message for her parents detailing her plan to go for a walk while wearing clothing that were inappropriate for the cold temperatures. When her parents did not see her return, they called emergency services. The girl was discovered dead in an inaccessible region near a trail at a height of 1,450 meters in the hamlet of Monte San Candido, Alta Pusteria. The autopsy determined that the young woman died as a result of frostbite, ruling out any physical harm to her body.
