The Savills Ski Resilience Index ranks 61 ski resorts around the world, measuring their quality and ability to cope with climate change: snowfall, reliability, season length, altitude and temperature. Aspen and Vail, in the U.S., top the list, followed by Zermatt, in Switzerland. Italy enters this ranking with Breuil-Cervinia in 5th place, Cortina D'Ampezzo in 39th, and Pinzolo in 46th, which get high scores mainly because of the right mix of temperatures and altitudes attainable. Danilo Orlando, Head of Residential at Savills, emphasizes the key role of Italy as a coveted destination for buying mountain homes, which is particularly appreciated by foreign investors. For this aspect, among the top 20 in the world is Cortina D'Ampezzo, in the Dolomites, which ranks 17th. The Italian city will host the Winter Olympic Games in 2026 and has seen a 6 percent increase in prime property prices, with an average of 14,800 euros per square meter, the highest share among Italian ski resorts. It's not just Cortina d'Ampezzo, however. Immobiliare.it Insights recently reported that locations with rising house prices, compared to five years ago, include Badia (9,500 euros/sqm +30 percent); Madonna di Campiglio (9,200 euros/sqm, +44 percent); Ortisei (8,500 euros/sqm, +12.2 percent) and Courmayeur (7,800 euros/sqm, +17.5 percent).
