The effort to modernize the lighting systems of the network operated by Autostrade per l'Italia continues: after 450 tunnels, a further 13,500 LED light points will replace old sodium lights at motorway interchanges. ASPI aims to complete this new phase by 2024 after investing more than €8 million. This breakthrough will allow for around 2 GWh of energy savings per year, reducing CO2 emissions by more than 520 tons per year, which is similar to the average yearly consumption of a municipality with over 3,000 residents. With the same operating hours, electricity consumption for junction lighting is expected to be lowered by 25% on average. Furthermore, it will improve visual comfort for travelers who use the managed network on a daily basis, resulting in increased driving safety. ASPI will intervene in all the nine area offices of the highway network being managed.
