The Casamonica family clan operates in a mafia-style criminal system. The Court of Cassation established this as part of a maxi-trial involving approximately thirty participants, including the family heads. The Supreme Court has also acknowledged the aggravating condition of the "armed nature of the association" in relation to some bosses. Depending on their roles, the suspects face charges of mafia membership dedicated to narcotics trafficking and distribution, extortion, usury, and illegal firearm possession. During the initial appeal procedure, the harshest punishments were handed down to the organization's top officials, with a 30-year maximum. During the indictment, the prosecution's officials claimed that "the investigation by the Rome prosecutor's office has put an end to the excessive power of the Casamonicas, which in Rome has an impressive force of intimidation".
