The 2029 Asian Winter Games will be held in a city that does not already exist. In actuality, Trojena, a mountain resort currently in development in Saudi Arabia, was designated as the venue for the occasion. The "ski capital" of the Gulf will feature 36 kilometers of slopes and is part of the Neom project, the future city for which Riyadh's Prince Mohammed bin Salman has budgeted 500 billion euros in investments. A pharaonic strategy, in which Webuild will also take part. The Italian construction company has been awarded a $4.7 billion contract to create a dam system for a 2.8-kilometer-long artificial lake, as well as a bow-shaped structure in Trojena that would hold hotels and luxury homes. A maxi-contract that drove the stock up 5.3% on the stock exchange. "This achievement reaffirms the group's ability to win a global competition with key industry leaders," stated Pietro Salini, CEO of WeBuild. The project will be erected in the Tabuk region, 50 kilometers from the Red Sea, where the only Saudi mountain range is located, with peaks ranging from 1500 to 2600 meters above sea level and occasionally covered in snow. Webuild's three-dam system will supply the freshwater lake at the ski complex, which includes an island for botanical diving and walking. Over 10,000 people will be hired to construct the infrastructure.
