Yet another episode of racism in Italian soccer. The protagonist is still Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, however, who, in Saturday's match against Udinese, calls out the referee and leaves the field, with the match suspended for a few minutes. The first chants came around the 26th minute of the match. Maignan recalls referee Maresca explaining the problem and it goes on, with the stadium speaker "warning" the fans. In the 33rd minute, however, the chants coming from the Juventus corner behind Maignan's goal did not stop, and the French goalkeeper again called Maresca's attention before leaving the goal. Taking off his gloves, he heads for the locker room, followed immediately by all his teammates and Pioli. Maresca can do nothing but suspend the match, while Udinese Sports Director Balzaretti goes under the curve to try to calm the fans' tempers. Eventually, after 5' of suspension, in which the announcer announced that the match would be permanently suspended in case of new chants, Milan returned to the pitch and the match resumed. Maignan heard people behind him calling him "monkey." Hence the decision to leave the field of play.
