The navigation difficulties created by the Yemeni Houthis' attacks on ships in the Red Sea risk impeding Asian fertilizer supplies worth around 200 million euros in 2023, with a concerning influence on agricultural enterprises' production costs. This is the result of ISTAT data analysis. According to a document presented to the Foreign Affairs Council by Italy, France, and Germany about the EU naval mission in the Red Sea, this might account for up to 15% of Italy's total fertilizer imports. Water-soluble fertilisers, which are used in fertigation and are already experiencing price increases, are particularly vulnerable.
