On the water resource, structural and non-structural interventions are needed in Italy, for example, the verification and to the recalibration of all those water concessions that were issued in the past, when climatic conditions were certainly better than the present. By the way, the rivers are also lean because there is a network of authorized and unauthorized withdrawals, and even those authorized today need to be reviewed, because unfortunately the situation has worsened considerably. Indeed, structural interventions are needed, including adjusting the water pipes, which, especially in the south, are leaking more than 50 percent, that is, about half of the water that is distributed, by the consortia and public water agencies, dispersed in the environment and never reaching its destination. The total volume of water withdrawn for drinking purposes on the Italian territory by more than 1,800 managing bodies of supply sources amounted to 9.49 billion cubic meters in 2015”. This is according to the Italian Society of Environmental Geology in pointing out that, "compared to 1999, the year of the first Census of water for civil use, in 2015, an increase in the volume withdrawn of 6.9 percent, or about 614 million cubic meters of water, is observed".
