These days Ingo Metzmacher conducts the Philharmonic Orchestra in three concerts dedicated precisely to the memory of the two masters. Also on the program, along with Dmitry Shostakovich's Symphony No. 4, is "Como una ola de fuerza y luz" by the Venetian composer with pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard, soprano Serena Sáenz and sound director Paolo Zavagna. The piece was first performed on June 28, 1972, with Abbado himself conducting, soprano Slavka Taskova Paoletti, Maurizio Pollini on piano, and Nono as sound director. The piece, written in close collaboration with Abbado and Pollini, is dedicated to Luciano Cruz.
