Less waiting, less paper, more transparency and speed: thanks to the help of digitization and PNRR funds, Italy has passed the threshold of 1,900 municipalities where the Digital Notification Service is now active. The platform is called SEND and it simplifies the management of communications with legal value sent by the public administration (local and central) to citizens and businesses: notifications regarding, for example, outcomes of administrative practices, traffic violations, tax assessment notices or refunds, and more. By December 2023, at least 800 comunes were scheduled to be integrated on the platform, but things have gone better than expected. To date, there are 1,921 municipalities already integrated and active on the platform, and another 3,688 have formalized the contracting of the technology partner, the first step in the accession process. The goal is to have at least 6,400 active local governments on SEND by June 2026.
