Galleria Sordi, in front of Piazza Colonna and the political palaces, has reopened in Rome. It had been closed more than a year ago for renovations. Stores for 15 national and international brands, including Japanese Uniqlo, which is making its debut in Rome, Hamleys, Iginio Massari, Mondadori Bookstore, and Havaianas, face the Galleria. Galleria Sordi aims to become a meeting place, also offering several dining spaces: Ristorante Stendhal, Antica Focacceria San Francesco and Rossopomodoro will open their doors here. When fully operational, the Galleria will generate a turnover estimated at more than 100 million euros, roughly double the pre-intervention turnover. In addition, in terms of employment, it will have a direct induced employment of about 200 people and indirect estimated at more than 600 people. Conceived in the period of Rome's transformation into the Capital of Italy based on a design by Leghorn architect Dario Carbone, the Galleria was inaugurated in October 1922, although it was not completed until 20 years later as a multifunctional body intended at the same time for commercial activities and offices. It is characterized by its entrances, both the two side entrances and the main entrance, surrounded by neoclassical columns.
