The Italian Competition Authority, in collaboration with the portal Skuola.net, surveyed 2,000 individuals regarding young consumers. The results indicate that individuals are becoming consumers at an earlier and earlier age, yet they lack sufficient knowledge of their rights: only one-third of adolescents claim to be familiar with the fundamental tenets of the Consumer Code. Early adopters are often unprepared to assert their rights. Today, people shop online from a young age, to the point where nearly half of Italian teenagers (47%) have already encountered after-sales issues, such as receiving a damaged product or one that does not match the description. However, in situations like this, few people know what to do. Analysis of the responses to the administered questionnaire reveals that only one in every three young people claims to be knowledgeable about the Consumer Code, the only tool that can truly safeguard them; therefore, nearly everyone requests additional information. Also, owing to the school, up to nine out of ten students support particular teaching on these themes.
