The "Space Surveillance" application, developed by INAF as a dissemination initiative for planetary defense, offers users the opportunity to experience augmented reality phenomena such as the aurora borealis, meteors and meteorites, comets, and space debris. Android and iOS users can obtain the application for free from the App Store and Google Play. An project that originated from a concept conceived by Daria Guidetti of Inaf in Bologna in 2021, and was subsequently developed in collaboration with researchers from the National Institute of Astrophysics and Demarka. The project features an ever-evolving website containing news, reviews, videos, and infographics pertaining to the investigation of celestial phenomena that may impact Earth. Such phenomena include potential comet and meteor flybys, asteroid impacts as well as a theatrical performance to tell show the work of the pioneers of planetary defense research. The usage of modern technologies such as augmented reality allows for the availability to extra content and the deepening of the themes of the project's macro regions.
