"On January 27, 79 years ago, with the demolition of Auschwitz's gates, the world witnessed firsthand the tragedy of the Shoah, the premeditated Nazi plot to persecute and destroy the Jewish people. Humanity fell with the Shoah. A historical event whose uniqueness, according to the assumptions, scientific character of the design, and technique of execution, must be explicitly reinforced." This is what Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Holocaust Remembrance Day, January 27. "These are very challenging times for Jewish communities. The violent attack by Hamas on October 7 unleashed a new surge of hatred against the Israeli people and reignited those hotbeds of anti-Semitism that had never been totally destroyed and had resurfaced, frequently masked behind criticism of the Israeli government's decisions. Anti-Semitism is a scourge that must be removed. And we must work to combat it in all its manifestations, both old and recent. It is a priority for our government, and we are pleased that in this arduous task, we can rely on General Pasquale Angelosanto's qualifications, competence, and experience as National Coordinator for the fight against anti-Semitism".
