"He touched! He touched the lunar ground!" It is July 20, 1969, and with these words Tito Stagno - journalist, sports commentator and TV host - makes the historic announcement of the moon landing. Tito Stagno's name is undoubtedly linked to this event: he is the commentator and star of the long live television coverage of the moon landing made by the Apollo 11 Space Mission. In 2009 Stagno published his autobiography "Mister Moonlight, confessions of a lunatic commentator”. "Mister Moonlight” is the nickname affectionately given to him by Buzz Aldrin, one of the three astronauts of the Apollo 11 Mission. He died in Rome on January 31, 2022 at the age of 92. Asteroid 110702 Titostagno is dedicated to him. On the second anniversary of the passing of the historical face of Rai, the Rai Storia channel will air the special "Tito Stagno. The Man from the Moon”, directed by Caterina Intelisano. It is a portrait of television's most popular journalist and commentator through his travels following popes and presidents and his commentaries on important historical events.
