Gauss Fusion, a European firm, and ENEA (National Agency for New Technologies, Energy, and Sustainable Economic Development) have formed a cooperation to advance nuclear fusion technologies. ENEA and Gauss Fusion seek to collaborate to create solutions for the following areas identified as critical to the advancement of fusion energy: blanket, fuel cycle, superconductivity, and neutronics. Through this collaboration, Gauss Fusion, a German-based European startup, enhances its alliance with the Italian fusion energy research and industrial sector. Gauss Fusion's strategic aim is to combine industrial competence and scientific quality to speed the development and deployment of technologies that will take fusion energy "from the lab to the grid" in Europe. ENEA, based in Rome, strives to boost Italy's competitiveness in energy, new technologies, and the environment, mostly by funding research and technologic development. Gauss, which already counts Hofima, the Malacalza family's holding company and a shareholder in ASG Superconductors, among its investors and technological partners, strengthens its ties to the Italian research and industry scenario with this agreement. ENEA, in fact, is the first Italian research institution to collaborate with Gauss Fusion, which aims to build the first fusion power plant by the early 2040s to promote Europe's energy independence.
