"The way we feed ourselves is responsible for at least a third of greenhouse gas emissions on the planet". These are the words by Chiara Nobili, a biotechnology expert at ENEA, Italy's national agency for new technologies, energy and sustainable economic development. Nobili presented a study conducted on National Food Waste Prevention Day, February 5. Part of the impact of food on the environment comes from waste, that is, both unsold products and those thrown away by consumers. ENEA is therefore proposing a series of best practices and new sustainable approaches to combat food waste and recover food that can no longer be used, as well as innovative technologies for agriculture and advanced processes to transform waste into new products with high added value for the agribusiness, livestock and nutraceutical sectors. According to ENEA, there has been a decrease in waste in recent years, especially in the most industrialized countries (United States -35 percent, Germany -43 percent, Spain -40 percent, France -32 percent). Italy stands at around -12%.
