Venice's Carnival has begun, with over 120 thousand people storming the city over the weekend. Families, parties of friends, and groups made their way to the historic center in a steady stream of people that flowed into the main city arteries from Piazzale Roma and the railway station to walk to St. Mark's Square. Hotels are 85% occupied. Crowds and great enthusiasm for the Marie procession in a gondola, followed by the parade of the twelve queens of the 2024 Carnival in St. Mark's Square. Over 50 concerts have been organized in Venice and Mestre's cultural centers. Until February 13th, the topic "To the East. The astonishing journey of Marco Polo" will be followed by a program of original and ad hoc initiatives, the majority of which are free. The topic of the 2024 Carnival, dedicated to the great Venetian trader and traveler, ranges from music to drama, literature to performances, and even children's events.
