Severe injury and season over for Italian ski champion Sofia Goggia. Yesterday morning the 31-year-old athlete was engaged in the third lap of the first day of training on the Casola Nera slope in Pontedilegno (in the province of Brescia), where she was preparing for the next World Cup event in Soldeu. While taking a turn to the right, her right ski got caught in a gate, causing her to fall: she fractured her tibia and malleolus. Goggia was then successfully operated on in the afternoon at the La Madonnina Clinic in Milan to reduce the fracture. After a perfectly successful operation, with a plate and seven screws applied in her leg, she will observe a period of rest and unloading of about 40 days, then the most active part of physiotherapy will begin in the next few days. "Another injury that interrupts my run-up to a new downhill World Cup," said the unfortunate champion from Bergamo before entering the operating room, "but this time too I will know how to get back up”.
