"We cannot interfere in criminal proceedings when there are hypotheses of crimes committed abroad; no extradition is possible, because this is only feasible in the case of crimes committed in Italy and then fleeing abroad. All we can do is ask that EU regulations be respected". These were the words of Antonio Tajani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, on the sidelines of the panel "The role of Italian Growth Diplomacy in the Mediterranean," in the context of the 9th edition of the "Rome MED Dialogues - Extraordinary Expert Meeting," underway in Rome. "Our position," the deputy prime minister added, "is to assist our 2,500 or so detainees who are around the world, that their rights are respected and this is something we do with all our detainees, including Ilaria Salis”.
