For Genoese consumers, it is a record that they would rather avoid. Prices and tariffs on food, household services, hotels, and energy are rising faster in the Ligurian capital than elsewhere in Italy, at +6.9% vs a national average of +5.7%. Sifting through the Istat data, it becomes clear that the Genoese have experienced more continuous price growth than the rest of Italy in numerous areas. For food and beverages, for example, they spent 10.3% more than the previous year, 9.1% more on housing, water, electricity, and gas, and 8.6% more on household items and services including furniture, appliances, and maintenance. Hotel, B&B, and accommodation facility charges have climbed by up to 13.9% per year, and families have paid nearly twice as much as the national average, +2.1%, to send their children to school. Only health services in Genoa are better, with a 1.2% increase compared to the Italian average of 1.6%, followed by transport services (+7.6% compared to +7.7% of the national average) and catering (+5.8%, on par with the Italian average). Last year, a family in Genoa spent around 1,500 euros more than the Italian average.
