Antonio Ciavarello, Totò Riina's son-in-law, was arrested in Malta yesterday morning on the execution of two European arrest warrants issued by the Italian judiciary. Maltese police surrounded his home in Mosta before storming in and making the arrest. The dawn raid came after weeks of investigation. In court, Antonio Ciavarello, known as Tony, admitted his identity and consented to the extradition for which Italy applied. Palermo-born, 50-year-old Antonino Ciavarello is the husband of Maria Concetta Riina, eldest daughter of godfather Totò Riina, who for decades was absolute head of Cosa Nostra, captured in 1993 and died in 2017 while serving 26 life sentences. In the very year of the Capo dei Capi's demise, Ciavarello was arrested in Puglia, where he lived with his wife in San Pancrazio Salentino, to serve six months under house arrest. In 2009, he was convicted of fraud in Termini Imerese.
