Defense Minister Guido Crosetto was urgently hospitalized overnight for suspected pericarditis. According to a note from the Defense, "following persistent pain since Monday morning - Minister Crosetto presented himself (alone and on foot) at the emergency room of the San Carlo di Nancy hospital in Rome, with severe chest pains. He is immediately monitored and then undergoes a coronary angiography. There is no news on the causes but hospital sources say it could be pericarditis". Pericarditis is the inflammation of the pericardium, the structure formed by two membranes separated by a thin layer of fluid, which surrounds, supports, and protects the heart. In the presence of pericarditis, the membranes become inflamed and an increase in fluid can occur, which in some cases can compress the heart. The causes of this disorder are varied and sometimes not recognizable even after accurate diagnosis. The classic symptom of pericarditis is chest pain, which in some aspects resembles the pain of a heart attack.
