Ugo Intini has passed away at the age of 82, last night in Milan, after a long illness. He leaves behind his wife Carla and son Carlo. Intini was long-time director of the socialist newspaper Avanti!, Il Lavoro in Genoa, and served as a deputy for four parliamentary terms. He held governmental positions in the second Amato Government (2000-2001) and the second Prodi Government (2006-2008), serving as undersecretary for Foreign Affairs in both administrations. As a socialist, Ugo Intini recounted significant pages of our country's history from the privileged observatory that was the leadership of the Italian Socialist Party in the 1980s, where he served as head of information, spokesperson for the PSI, party representative to the Socialist International, alongside Bettino Craxi. In the difficult years following the Tangentopoli scandal, he never left the PSI but continued to generously contribute his ideas, accompanying the party and its activists in a challenging path of reformist reaffirmation in the following years, up to the present day, where his presence has never been lacking. Intini is remembered for his extensive literary production, through which he delved into the contours of a country in constant transformation, shedding light on aspects of history that were previously unknown, involving many of the political actors of our recent past.
