The problem of artificial intelligence (AI) will receive special emphasis during the G7 presidency of Italy. Italy takes the baton from Japan, which launched the so-called "Hiroshima process," which resulted in significant declarations of principle by political leaders. What can the G7 contribute under the Italian Presidency? To help answer this issue, the Catholic University's Observatory on Public Accounts has compiled a list of dozens of AI applications that are already underway in a variety of industries. One of the most notable is Barilla's use of artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor the quality of ingredients (such as basil) and completed goods. Alternatively, instead of heavily sprayed pesticides, AI-driven tractor-mounted lasers that target weeds to the millimeter could be used. After so many summits on the risks of AI, the G7 under Italian presidency should stress the beneficial effects of AI on the collective well-being and productivity of the economic system, which is a critical issue for nations with high debt and growing aging.
