"The Regional Council, given the continuation of the emergency, has decided to allocate an additional contribution of 200,000 euros, intended to support the capture of blue crab, going to help fishermen who go out with their boats and who struggle every day to be able to do their job. Between the folds of the budget, I count that additional appropriations can be found. However, I appeal to the government and national institutions for a state of calamity to be declared as soon as possible, as the region has repeatedly requested. From the information available, it seems that the implementing decrees to extend the measures provided for agriculture to the fishing sector are still lacking: on this point it is urgent to speed up the timetable. There are many families and businesses, in Veneto, that are experiencing dramatic moments”. This was said yesterday by the President of the Veneto Region, Luca Zaia, commenting on the decision of the Consortium of Fishermen of Polesine to stop fishing in all the lagoons of Porto Tolle due to a lack of product, wiped out by blue crab. "I thank the government and Minister Lollobrigida for what they have done, dealing with a situation that is certainly unpredictable and complex, which also puts existing regulatory tools to the test and forces extraordinary work in search of new solutions. We are faced with a phenomenon that is bringing an entire sector to its knees: a large part of our local fish stock has already been compromised," Zaia added. "In recent days I have asked, flanked by the invaluable work of Councillor Corazzari, to look in the regional budget items for an additional effort for fishing, which is in addition to the resources allocated in the immediate aftermath of the emergency. But further support from the government is needed, which I am sure can materialize”.
