The volume of Italian sparkling wines transported to the United States in 2023 decreased by 14%, while actual consumption of Italian sparkling wines on the shelves and in the United States increased, indicating a green light. This was shown by the Uiv-Vinitaly Observatory, which recorded a broad drop in U.S. imports following a 15-year triumphal ride (excluding the Covid year), with sales growing by about 100%. However, according to Uiv-Vinitaly, this does not mark the end of a love story. The difference between orders - held back by destocking - and actual consumption is enormous: the monitoring of actual purchases in fact marks further growth (+1.7%) of the Italian sparkling wine sector in 2023, as opposed to domestic, French, and Spanish ones, whose difficulties are widely acknowledged.
