Five people died and three were seriously injured in an accident on Saturday morning in Florence at a construction site for the construction of a new supermarket, where a concrete beam collapsed, crushing several workers. The ascertained victims at the moment are Luigi Coclite, 59, originally from Abruzzo but a longtime resident of Collesalvetti, in the province of Livorno; Mohamed Toukabri, 54, from Tunisia; Mohamed El Farhane, 24, from Morocco; and Taoufik Haidar, 43, from Morocco. The victims worked for firms that, between contracts and subcontracts, carried out various types of work in the construction of the new Esselunga brand supermarket. The Florence prosecutor's office has opened a file, currently without suspects, for multiple culpable homicide and negligent collapse. The construction site has been placed under seizure. Meanwhile, it emerges that the commissioning company and the contractor are the same as those of the accidents at the construction site of another supermarket of the Lombardy-based supermarket group in Genoa on February 10, 2023, in which three workers were injured when a parking ramp collapsed.
