The escalating violence that has plagued Sudan for the past ten months and is now extending to Mozambique, followed by bloody conflicts in Palestine and Ukraine, among others. These are examples of how "war is a defeat". Pope Francis consistently reiterates it, even incorporating it into his greetings on the initial Sunday of Lent following the recitation of the Angelus. "Let us not forget: war is always a defeat, always," he went on to say. "Wherever there is fighting, people are exhausted; they are tired of war, which, as usual, is futile and inconclusive, bringing only death and ruin and never providing a solution to the problem. Instead, let us pray constantly because prayer works, and let us ask the Lord for the gift of minds and hearts that are concretely dedicated to peace".
