Tonight, the Chinese Lang Lang, one of the most renowned pianists of our time, returns to the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome as a guest of the Chamber Season of the Santa Cecilia Conservatory, following a three-year absence. A few years ago, Time Magazine named him to its "Time 100" list, identifying him as a symbol of Chinese youth and the country's future. He has played for four US presidents, at the inauguration of the Beijing Olympics, Steinway & Sons named an instrument after him. But also, he has appeared in major television networks and magazines around the world, he was among the first social phenomena of the third millennium, he has sold more than one hundred million records, recorded the music of a well-known video game, his autobiography was published in 2009, and of course he has collaborated with the best orchestras in the world such as the Berliner and the Wiener Philharmoniker, New York Philharmonic, Staatskapelle Dresden, Gewandhaus Leipzig, making his debut in 2003 with the Orchestra di Santa Cecilia conducted by Yuri Temirkanov. The concert begins with Fauré's Pavane, which was originally written for orchestra in 1887 and modified for piano two years later. This will be followed by Robert Schumann's Kreisleriana op. 16, a cycle of "Eight Fantasies" named after a character, Kreisler, created by E.T.A Hoffmann. The second half of the event will be totally dedicated to Chopin, with a diverse collection of mazurkas, the Polish dance popularized by Chopin himself, and the Polonaise op. 44 of 1841.
