The war between cybercriminals and security specialists continues. During 2023, however, artificial intelligence entered the scene for both parties. The former utilize it to develop increasingly incisive cyber hazards, while the latter use it to identify effective security tools. The number of attacks carried out, even last year, marks a clear advantage for hackers. The Clusit Report, published by the Italian Association for Information Security, assesses the situation in Italy. In the first six months of 2023, cyberattacks increased by 40% over the same period last year. It should be noted that Italy accounted for 9.6% of all severe global attacks, reaching a high of 262 shares in the first half of the year. According to Gabriele Faggioli, president of Clusit, "In the backdrop of international tensions and the conflict fought on Europe's borders, Italy undoubtedly entered the crosshairs of cyberattacks by the end of 2022. Unfortunately, the trend has become more pronounced by 2023". The most infractions (23%) were directed against public administration firms, followed by the manufacturing sector (17%). Insurance and banking incidents have more than doubled, accounting for 9% of attacks in the first half of 2023.
