The Public Prosecutor's Office in Rome has started a file against unknown individuals in order to pursue investigations into the Messina Bridge Project. The act was prompted by a nine-page complaint filed on February 1 by Europa Verde spokesperson Angelo Bonelli, Democratic Party secretary Elly Schlein, and Italian Left secretary Nicola Fratoianni regarding the design and construction of the bridge, which was strongly desired by Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini. In particular, the opposition legislators' complaint asks the Prosecutors for clarity on why Società Stretto di Messina S.p.A "has decided not to make public fundamental documents for the extent of the project and the procedures". In simple terms, the complaint alleges that SdM SpA "has repeatedly refused requests to provide" the petitioners with "both the report of updating the project and the negotiation act, despite the fact that a member of the scientific committee had publicly stated that he had made the aforementioned report public" . The authors of the complaint argue that the refusal "of SdM SpA, which with the Decree is established as an in-house company, to deliver documents expressly provided for by the decree prevents it from exercising a right and an action of control and verification. SdM SpA has refused to provide us with the negotiation document, which would allow us to check how swiftly Webuild modified a sophisticated 12-year-old project".
